Team Notes and Weekly Recaps

8/19/01 Press Release: Cereal Kilurz General Manager Mark Petrillo named his 2001 carryover players today, offering a two year contract extension to WR Terrell Owens ($14) and one year extensions to RB Marshall Faulk ($33), TE Tony Gonzalez ($9), QB Brian Griese ($8), and RB Priest Holmes ($6).  With only $30 left for the auction, is Petrillo concerned about his team?  "Are you kidding me?  We could start just these guys and probably win half of our games" he bragged.  "$30 will be plenty.  We'll be able to fill in the rest of our lineup and probably have enough for another star player or two."

Auction Summary: After three straight years of not making the playoffs, will the fourth time be a charm for Mark Petrillo's Cereal Kilurz?  Experts agree that Petrillo assembled a very solid team at today's auction, but he's not making any bold predictions yet.  "Every year, I say we have a great team and think we'll make the playoffs, only to be let down come season's end.  Not this time.  This year, I'm hoping actions will speak louder than words."  For the second straight year, Petrillo entered the auction with more money spent than any other EFFL owner (a league record $70).  Even with only $30 left to spend, Petrillo managed to pick up 13 additional players to round out his team. Today's acquisitions include WR Wayne Chrebet ($7), kicker Martin Gramatica ($4), Tampa Bay's Defense ($4), rookie QB Michael Vick ($4), and even the backups for superstars Marshall Faulk and Brian Griese.  With this combination of superstars, promising rookies and potential bargains, look for the Cereal Kilurz to make their presence felt throughout the EFFL.

Griese earning the first
game ball of 2001
Week 1: The Cereal Kilurz opened the 2001 season with a 62-50 victory over their arch-nemesis, the Second Half Slide.  This week's victory was the first win over the Slide in exactly three years for the Kilurz, dating back to the team's inaugural EFFL game.  Despite the Kilurz being the second highest scoring team in the league, GM Mark Petrillo hopes even better results are yet to come.  "Brian had a great week, but I think we can actually expect improvement from most of the rest of the team.  Hopefully this will end up being one of our lower scoring weeks this year."  Petrillo reportedly questioned Coach Heidi Klum's decision to start WR Wayne Chrebet (1) over Bill Schroeder (11) and rookie Marvin "Snoop" Minnis (7) this week, but Klum went with Chrebet anyway.  Fortunately for the Kilurz, the Chrebet decision didn't affect the outcome of the game.  QB Brian Griese (21) earned this year's first game ball, throwing for 330 yards and 3 touchdowns during Monday night's game.

Griese with another
impressive performance
Week 2: Despite putting a measly 48 points on the scoreboard, the Cereal Kilurz remain undefeated this season after beating the Kodiak Bears 48-40.  The Kilurz are now 6-1 lifetime against the Bears, outscoring them 423-322.  "We were lucky to come up with a win this week," commented GM Mark Petrillo after Monday night's game.  "Other than Brian (Griese) and Marshall (Faulk), I was disappointed with how the team played.  Maybe I'm just spoiled after we set the EFFL scoring record last season, but I expected to score a lot more points than this.  I'm confident my guys will step it up next week against Kong."  The Kilurz may have won their game, but sources say Petrillo lost a $1 bet to Rebel Smell coach Mark Saylor after failing to score 70 points this week.  When asked for details, Petrillo only quipped "No comment."  Brian Griese earned another game ball after scoring 21 points for the second straight week.  Griese has thrown six TD passes and has yet to be picked off this year.

Week 3: The Cereal Kilurz remain undefeated after beating the defending Super Bowl champion Kong 89-65 this week.  General Manager Mark Petrillo says his players are finally starting to live up to his expectations.  "Don't get me wrong, I'm happy to be 3-0 no matter how we got here, but I was a little disappointed with our low scoring the first two weeks.  89 points is more like what I expect this team to put on the board every week."  Not only did the Kilurz starters score big, but their bench accounted for 44 points as well, including 28 from RB Priest Holmes.  WR Bill Schroeder, who Petrillo encouraged Head Coach Heidi Klum to start over Wayne Chrebet, scored a touchdown from the Kilurz bench for the third straight week.  "I don't know what I have to do to get her to start that guy.  Luckily, it hasn't mattered and we've won anyway."  This week's game ball went to last year's team MVP, Marshall Faulk, who scored three TDs en route to putting 25 points on the board.  The 199 points the Kilurz have score this season are second only to the 3-0 Strawmakers who they face in Week 4 in a possible Super Bowl preview.  After three very close games with the Strawmakers, the Kilurz remain winless.

Martin
10/03/01 Trade: Cereal Kilurz General Manager Mark Petrillo announced a seven player trade with Kong today, sending Wayne Chrebet, Priest Holmes, Tony Richardson, Nick Goings, Mike Green and the Colts Defense to Kong in exchange for Curtis Martin.  "Did I give away too much depth?" Petrillo asked rhetorically.  "Maybe... but we also solidified our starting lineup.  I've been watching Curtis for the past few years, and I had to jump on the opportunity to add him to this team.  Besides, I figured trading Chrebet might be the only way to get Coach Klum to give Billy (Schroeder) a start for once."  Today's trade reportedly came after unsuccessful negotiations with at least five other EFFL teams.  Of the eight trades in Cereal Kilurz History, four have been with Kong.  "Yeah, it's really hard to deal with most of these punks.  You should see some of the ridiculous offers that come across my desk."  What do the other owners think of today's trade?  Strawmakers owner Bernie Martinelli summed it up best in a post-trade email to Petrillo, saying, "If your team stays healthy, you are now the team to beat... This should FINALLY be the year that you make the playoffs."

Martin proving to be a
worthy addition to the team
Week 4: For the first time in team history, the Cereal Kilurz have defeated the Strawmakers.  "Can you believe it?" asked GM Mark Petrillo in his usual post-game press conference, while Limp Bizkit's Rollin' blared in the background.  "Finally beating those damn Strawmakers really means a lot to me.  Our team is for real."  The 4-0 Kilurz stomped the previously unbeaten makers of straw by a score of 89-57 and are now the highest scoring team in the EFFL, averaging 72 points per game.  Since taking over for her boyfriend as Head Coach of the Kilurz last year, former team cheerleader Heidi Klum has coached her way to an 8-2 record.  "It's really not that big of a deal," explained a modest and scantily clad Klum.  "Anyone could win with the team Mark put together this year."  WR Bill Schroeder (11) scored a TD for the fourth consecutive week, finally as a part of the Kilurz starting lineup.  "That's right - one dollar," Petrillo said of Schroeder's 2001 salary.  "Billy was the steal of the auction and looks to be a solid carryover down the road."  RB Marshall Faulk (11) fumbled for the first time in over 500 touches and TE Tony Gonzalez (12) failed to find the end zone, but both were still among the week's top performers.  WR Terrell Owens (17) also returned to his 2000 form, snagging two TD passes, but this week's top performer was newly acquired RB Curtis Martin (18).  Martin was given the game ball in his first game for the Kilurz after rushing for 135 yards and two scores.

Faulk is likely to miss
the next 3-4 weeks
Week 5: The Cereal Kilurz are 5-0, but this week's 62-38 win over the Badville Chaunceys came at a price.  Superstar RB Marshall Faulk (-2) injured his knee today during an awkward collision and is expected to miss 3-4 weeks.  Faulk fumbled the ball three times in his 23 touches leading up to today's injury after not fumbling at all for the previous 501.  GM Mark Petrillo hopes Antowain Smith will be able to fill in nicely for Faulk for the next few weeks.  "Don't get me wrong, losing Marshall is devastating to this team, but Antowain has scored four touchdowns over the past three weeks, so I think he'll do fine.  It's too soon to say when to expect Marshall back, but I'm hoping he'll be ready after St. Louis' bye in Week 8.  That would give him four weeks to recover and we'd only be without him for two games."  Head Coach Heidi Klum agreed.  "We're keeping our fingers crossed for a speedy, and more importantly, full recovery.  Everyone on the team knows they have to step up now.  I really don't think it's going to be a problem."  Terrell Owens' 27 points today led the Kilurz to victory and earned him his first game ball of the season.  All of Owens 183 yards came after halftime, and his three touchdown catches today give him six his last three games.

Week 6: All good thing must come to an end, and this week, the Cereal Kilurz six game winning streak and undefeated season ended.  A combination of injuries, bye weeks and starting the wrong QB led to the Kilurz scoring only 37 points this week - their lowest total in 26 games.  Terrell Owens was on bye, both Marshall Faulk and Bill Schroeder didn't play due to injuries, Antowain Smith's (3) three game scoring streak was snapped, and Curtis Martin (3) scored single digits fantasy points for the first time this season.  Brian Griese (5) and Tony Gonzalez (5) also had sub-par performances.  Add it all up, and the result is a 42-37 loss to the Red Zone Assassins.  "I'm not too worried about it," GM Mark Petrillo commented after the game.  "I knew our streak would end eventually.  We're still two games up in the division and we'll have Terrell, and hopefully Marshall, back next week."  Luckily for the Kilurz, the knee injury suffered by Faulk last week wasn't as bad as first feared.  Faulk wanted to play in this week's game, but Head Coach Heidi Klum decided to rest him to ensure he will be completely recovered by next week.  Klum noted, "Marshall is far too important a part of this team for us to risk aggravating his injury by playing him before he's 100%."  With no one else stepping up, this week's game ball went to newly acquired Charlie Batch (19), who, unfortunately for the Kilurz, was on their bench this week.

Gonzalez celebrates
his score with a dunk
Week 7: Here we go again.  In typical Cereal Kilurz fashion, the Kilurz have scored more points than any other team in the EFFL (440), but are losing in close games.  The Kilurz lost by 5 points last week and were defeated by only 4 this week, as the TECtonic Movement outscored them 57-53.  In 4 meetings with the "Bowel" Movement, the Kilurz have outscore their opponents 251-246, but have only one win to show for it.  "It's just bad luck," GM Mark Petrillo said after the game.  "We'll snap out of it."  Curtis Martin (8) had a big game this week, but failed to find the end zone.  His 159 rushing yards and 39 receiving yards were both just short of earning him two more points.  Rian Lindell (6) also missed two short field goals (35 and 28 yards), costing the Kilurz 9 points and a victory.  Marshall Faulk was unhappy about being held out of this week's game, but is expected back in full health in Week 9 after his bye.  The 5-2 Kilurz remain in first place in the Lambert division, but are now only one game ahead of the surging Kong, who have won three straight.  Tony Gonzalez (13) earned this week's game ball, racking up 75 yards and a TD.  Gonzalez leads all Tight Ends with 62 points scored this year.

Owens celebrates
yet another TD
Week 8: The Cereal Kilurz snapped their two game losing streak this week, defeating Pandora's Box 57-49.  The Kilurz are now 3-0 lifetime against Pandora.  "We always enjoy these easy wins against that chick, Teri (Martinelli)," quipped GM Mark Petrillo.  "We're looking forward to what should be another easy victory this week against the Rebel Smell, especially if Marshall (Faulk) and Billy (Schroeder) are able to return to the lineup."  The Kilurz also 3-0 lifetime vs. Commissioner Mark Saylor's currently 2-6 Rebel Yell.  The Kilurz 497 points scored continue to lead the EFFL, while the Yell's 332 are dead last.  Terrell Owens (18), the league's top scoring WR, received this week's game ball after racking up 125 yards and scoring two TDs.

McNabb
11/06/01 Trade: Most EFFL owners thought it would be impossible for the EFFL dominating Cereal Kilurz team to get any better, but they just did.  Cereal Kilurz General Manager Mark Petrillo announced a five player trade with the Badville Chaunceys today, sending QB Brian Griese and RB Antowain Smith to the Chaunceys in exchange for QB Donovan McNabb, RB Trung Canidate, and WR Az-Zahir Hakim.  "First, I'd like to go on record saying this trade should not reflect poorly on Brian or Antowain," said Petrillo in today's press conference.  "Both players have contributed to our team, but simply don't fit into our future plans.  Hell, Brian single-handedly carried us for the first two weeks of the season.  We wish him the best of luck with the Chaunceys.  And the same goes for Antowain."  The addition of McNabb gives the Kilurz a superstar quarterback for the first round of the EFFL playoffs, Week 15, which happens to be Griese's bye week.  Now the Kilurz only need to ensure they get there.

McNabb's 26 points
led the Kilurz in their
record setting week
Week 9: Amazing.  Spectacular.  Unbelievable.  Merciless.  These words only begin to describe the Cereal Kilurz performance this week, as the team shattered the EFFL's all time single game scoring record, stomping the Rebel Yell 129-50.  Not only did this week's humiliating defeat embarrass tough talking Mark Saylor, Coach of the 2-7 Rebel Yell (now 0-4 lifetime vs. the Kilurz), but it knocked him out of the record books as well.  Coach Saylor's 1998 Yell set the previous scoring record of 116 points.  At one point, Saylor personally called GM Mark Petrillo's cell phone and begged him to "call off the dogs," but Petrillo would have none of it until the record was set.  "You know, I actually dreamed we would set the all time record this week," Petrillo announced after the game.  "Seriously, I'm not kidding.  Ask (Strawmaker's GM) Bernie (Martinelli) if you don't believe me.  I emailed him a few days ago and told him about it so he'd know his 92 point high score of the season was about to be history."  Realizing that nearly 1000 games have been played in the EFFL's five and a half year history (986 entering Week 9, to be exact), Petrillo originally discounted his self-described "ridiculous premonition of 124 points."  Little did he know the Kilurz would actually exceed his predicted total.  Exactly one year ago this week, the Kilurz took a shot at the record, but came up just short with 112 points.  Not settling for a near miss again this year, the Cereal Kilurz starters all turned in impressive performances, combining to score 13 TDs.  Kicker Jay Feeley (7) was the only player to score single digits on the team, and only because he missed a short field goal and cost himself four points.  Tampa Bay's Defense (14) had a solid day, with a fumble recovery, two picks, and five sacks.  Only Tony Gonzalez (10) and Bill Schroeder (11) failed to score multiple TDs for the Kilurz, but the rest of the team was nothing less than spectacular.  Terrell Owens (17) turned in his usual 100 yard game with two scores, while Marshall Faulk (21) returned from his three week absence to rush for 183 yards and two TDs of his own.  Curtis Martin (23), the EFFL's top RB, had his best game of the season, rushing for 113 yards and three TDs, and last, but certainly not least, newly acquired Donovan McNabb (26) thrilled a packed house at GM Mark Petrillo's residence throwing three TD passes and rushing for a fourth score.  With so many outstanding Cereal Kilurz performances this week, Head Coach Heidi Klum awarded the entire team with game balls.

Akers connecting on one
of his five field goals
Week 10: The Cereal Kilurz improved their record to 8-2 with a 65-32 win over the Shipyard Sharks this week.  The Kilurz have scored an EFFL best 691 points this season, and have all but locked a playoff spot, as the team is now leading the Lambert Division by three games.  Marshall Faulk (13) racked up a combined 153 yards from scrimmage and scored a TD, and both of the Kilurz WRs scored TDs as well.  Proving himself to be "the steal of the draft," Bill Schroeder (8) has now scored a TD in six of the seven games he's played this season, and Terrell Owens (10) has scored 11 times in his last seven games.  "We really couldn't be more pleased with the play of those two," said GM Mark Petrillo in a post-game interview.  "We're really looking forward to having them back on the team next year for a combined $20 salary."  This week's game ball went to kicker David Akers (19), who was picked up during this week's add/drops for $1.  In his Cereal Kilurz debut, Akers was perfect from the field, booting five field goals.

Tampa Bay putting a hurt
on Faulk and the Rams
Week 11: With a four game lead in the Lambert division and only three games left in the EFFL regular season, the 9-2 Cereal Kilurz have locked a playoff spot for the first time in their four year history.  "I'm thrilled," said GM Mark Petrillo in a champagne soaked room full of drunken Cereal Kilurz.  "It's been a great season, and we're really looking forward to the playoffs."  This week's 47-46 victory over the Rambling Gophs was every bit as close as the final score.  The Kilurz were down 25 points going into Monday night's game, with Marshall Faulk (4), Trung Canidate (0) and Tampa Bay's Defense (18) left to play.  The Bucs held Faulk to his second lowest output of the year, but forced five turnovers in the process, giving the Kilurz the win.  The Tampa Bay Defense's impressive performance against the Rams earned them this week's game ball.

Faulk scoring the
100th TD of his career
Week 12: It was a meaningless game for the Cereal Kilurz, but they trounced on division rival Kong 88-49 anyway.  "Just for fun," General Manager Mark Petrillo said with a smile.  The playoff bound 10-2 Cereal Kilurz have scored an EFFL leading 826 points this season - more than 100 points more than their closest competition.  The Kilurz need to score an unlikely 198 points in their final two game to match their EFFL record 1024 from last year.  Philadelphia Eagles teammates Donovan McNabb (15) and David Akers (11) both put up solid numbers this week, and WRs Bill Schroeder (11) and Terrell Owens (9) caught their usual TD passes.  But there was no question who deserved the game ball, as Marshall Faulk (27) had 198 total yards and caught three TD passes, giving him 100 for his career.  In their last seven games, game balls have gone to seven different Cereal Kilurz.

Week 13: Some things never change.  Even though this week's win was meaningless to the already playoff bound Cereal Kilurz, the team humiliated the Kodiak Bears anyway with a 63-24 victory.  The 11-2 Kilurz sixth straight win came against a team they have had very little trouble with in the past.  The Kilurz are now 7-1 lifetime against division rival Matt Saylor's Bears, and they now sport an 11-1 combined record against brothers Matt and Mark.  The only loss came to the Bears, exactly three years ago this week.  When asked if he realized his team had beaten the Saylor brothers nine straight times, GM Mark Petrillo responded, "I know we've pretty much dominated them, but I didn't realize it was that bad."  Apparently, while watching the Sunday games together three weeks and three Kodiak Bears' losses ago, Coach Matt was making a lot of bold statements and playoff predictions to Petrillo.  "Yeah, those Saylor brothers sure like to talk a lot of smack, but they lose a lot too, don't they?  You'd think eventually they would learn."  Heidi Klum, the usually quiet Head Coach of the Kilurz chimed in and jokingly asked, "How does that American saying go?  'Put up or shut something,' I think."  The Kilurz touchdown scoring WRs, Terrell Owens (2) and Bill Schroeder (1) were virtually shut down this week, combining to score only three points.  QB Donovan McNabb (13) and TE Tony Gonzalez (11) both had decent games, and RB Curtis Martin (8) actually threw a TD pass, but Coach Klum decided RB Marshall Faulk (16) deserved this week's game ball after his two TD performance.  This was Faulk's second consecutive game ball.

game ball of 2001
Week 14: Capping off a spectacular 2001 regular season, the Cereal Kilurz defeated the Second Half Slide by a score of 56-37 this week.  The 12-2 Kilurz won both of their matchups with the Slide this year after losing five straight to their arch-rivals.  This week's victory was the seventh in a row for the Kilurz, who are now just two wins away from their first ever Super Bowl victory.  The team ended the regular season with 945 points scored, 140 points more than the next highest scoring team in the league, and the third highest total in EFFL history.  The Kilurz set the record for most points scored in a season last year with 1024.  "We're pretty pumped for the playoffs," commented GM Mark Petrillo during the post-game press conference.  Asked how he liked his team's chances in their first ever playoff game, Petrillo responded, "We have a tough matchup against the TECtonic Movement - the 'Bowel Movement,' as I like to call them - but I'm still confident.  They managed to squeak out a win over us earlier this year, but we didn't have Marshall (Faulk) or Billy (Schroeder) in the lineup.  We should be full strength next week, and the guys are fired up."  Marshall Faulk (10) had over 100 yards from scrimmage and another TD this week, but Coach Heidi Klum awarded Bill Schroeder (10) his first game ball.  "Billy has been a consistent scorer for us all year," she said.  "He has been an invaluable addition to this team, and was arguably the steal of the auction.  I think it's safe to say you'll be seeing him in our lineup again next year."

fourth game ball
Playoffs, Round 1: In their first post-season game in franchise history, the Cereal Kilurz pounded the TECtonic Movement 67-45, landing them a spot in the EFFL Super Bowl next week.  Inept coaching on the part of TECtonic's Head Coach, Todd Connelly, turned out to not be a factor, but it made for a much easier victory for the Kilurz.  For some unknown reason, Connelly only started one running back this week, leaving Richard Huntley (9) on his bench.  He also started Mushin Muhammed (0), who was ruled out of this week's game with an injury, effectively reducing his team to six players instead of eight.  "Let's put it this way," said GM Mark Petrillo during a post-game press conference, "When 1:00 rolled around and I saw Huntley still wasn't in his lineup, I started really liking our chances."  Petrillo continued, "We've had a lot of close losses to the Bowel Movement in the past, including a four point loss earlier this year, so it was nice to beat those punks today."  Incidentally, the Kilurz have yet to lose a game since that loss in Week 7.  Tampa Bay's Defense (18) forced four turnovers and scored once, Curtis Martin (8) posted 169 total yards, and Terrell Owens (9) caught his NFL leading 14th TD pass, but there was no question who Head Coach Heidi Klum would award this week's game ball to.  Making a bid for his third straight team MVP award, Marshall Faulk (24) rushed for over 200 yards and scored two TDs.  Faulk has been the Kilurz highest scorer for the past four weeks.

Playoffs, Round 2: After dominating virtually the entire 2001 season, it was only fitting for the Cereal Kilurz to dominate this year's EFFL Super Bowl.  The Kilurz defeated the Red Zone Assassins by a score of 100-31, bringing their final record to an EFFL all time best 14-2.  The Kilurz, who set another record by winning their ninth straight game this week, were only nine points short of having an undefeated season.  This week's 100 point game was only the third time in two years that the century mark was reached, and all three times were at the hands of the Kilurz.  The team's 129 point total in Week 9 remains the all time highest score in EFFL history, and earned GM Mark Petrillo $50 from this year's Optional Pool.  Petrillo won the pool last year as well, but has a Super Bowl ring (and another $333 cash) to go with it this year.  "It feels great," Petrillo shouted in the Kilurz champagne soaked locker room during the team's victory celebration, lighting his cigar with a $1 bill.  "This season has been a dream - truly one for the books."  Petrillo's girlfriend, Head Coach Heidi Klum agreed.  "It was an honor to coach these guys.  I'm really going to miss this team next year."  The Kilurz are 18-4 since Klum took over the coaching duties from Petrillo midway through the 2000 season, but according to her, that's nothing special.  "Oh, come on," Klum pleaded, "when you're dealing with talent like this, it's easy to win games.  Now if you will excuse me," she added as she pulled Petrillo from the room, "I need to give my GM a special victory present in private."  Tony Gonzalez (19) scored two TDs this week, and Donovan McNabb (18) had a great game as well, but once again, it was Marshall Faulk (31) who dominated the game's highlight reel.  In what very well may have been his final game wearing a Cereal Kilurz uniform, Faulk continued his season dominance, racking up 165 total yards and scoring four touchdowns.  Faulk's 31 EFFL points was tops among the Kilurz starters for the fifth straight week, and single handedly matched the Assassins' total score.  Faulk was honored with his fifth individual game ball of the season and was named the 2001 EFFL Super Bowl MVP.

Owens
Week 17 - Cereal Kilurz Vs. The World: In an unprecedented move after winning the EFFL Super Bowl, GM Mark Petrillo issued a "Cereal Kilurz vs. The World" challenge to his fellow EFFL owners.  Petrillo offered to put up his team against any combination of non-Cereal Kilurz All Stars that his fellow owners wanted to start in Week 17.  Petrillo agreed to wager as much as $5 of his winnings per matchup, but only four owners had the guts to accept the challenge: Bernie Martinelli, Mike Shapiro, Mark Saylor, and Matt Saylor.  Petrillo ended up going 2-2 on the day, breaking even as his Cereal Kilurz scored 70 points.  In typical Saylor fashion, brothers Mark and Matt both lost their games, managing to put only 54 and 57 points on the board respectively.  Including today's games, the Saylor brothers are a combined 1-13 against the Kilurz.  Shapiro's All Stars scored 88 points and Martinelli's players scored 91.  Asked what his motivation for this week's challenge was, Petrillo responded, "It wasn't about the money.  I thought we were a long shot to win, at best.  I figured this would be a fun way to extend the EFFL season one more week, and hopefully give everyone a chance to win some of their money back.  Who knows - maybe this will turn into an EFFL tradition." Terrell Owens received this week's game ball even though he caught only two passes - 56 and 60 yard TDs, both in the first quarter.

Faulk
Faulk Named 2001 Team MVP: For the third consecutive year, Marshall Faulk has been named the Cereal Kilurz Most Valuable Player.  Despite missing three games with a knee injury, Faulk led all Kilurz players with 215 EFFL points (through Week 17) and earned six game balls along the way.  Excluding the game when he was injured, Faulk scored less than 10 points in a game only twice.  He scored 20 or more points five times, including his season high of 31 during the Week 16 EFFL Super Bowl.  Faulk's 21 TDs (12 rushing and 9 receiving) led the NFL, and he racked up more than 2000 total yards for his NFL record fourth straight season.  After playing with the Cereal Kilurz for the past three years, Faulk is now a free agent and not likely to return next year.  "There's no player who I want on this team more than Marshall," said GM Mark Petrillo, "but because of the salary cap, I don't think we can afford him.  It's probably going to take $40-$45 to sign him next year."  Head Coach Heidi Klum added, "On behalf of the entire Cereal Kilurz team, I'd like to wish Marshall the best of luck no matter where he ends up playing."

2/21/02 - Head Coach Heidi Klum Fired: In an unannounced press release, Cereal Kilurz Owner and General Manager Mark Petrillo announced the firing of the team's head coach Heidi Klum today.  The extremely brief press release did not specify the reason for Klum's firing, but speculation is that it had more to do with Petrillo and Klum's highly publicized, messy break-up than Klum's coaching abilities.  A source close to both Petrillo and Klum, who asked not to be identified, placed all the blame for the couple's breakup on Klum.  "Not only was Heidi cheating on him for years, but she is actually suing him for running her unofficial fan site on the internet."  Another anonymous source added, "It is truly amazing how someone who comes off so sweet in public can in actuality be so cold hearted.  I'm glad she got fired. She deserves it.After nearly two seasons coaching the team, Klum led the Kilurz to an impressive 18-4 record, but it's common knowledge that she was only a figure head in the organization, and in actuality, Petrillo was calling all the shots.

Petrillo
Petrillo Wins Back to Back Coach of the Year Honors: For the second consecutive year, Cereal Kilurz owner Mark Petrillo was recognized with EFFL Coach of the Year honors.  Under Petrillo's leadership, his team dominated the league in 2001, scoring a league high 1112 points en route to a 14-2 season.  The Kilurz two losses were by a combined total of nine points.  Petrillo's second consecutive dominating season began during the pre-season, when he announced his 5 carryover players: Marshall Faulk, Terrell Owens, Tony Gonzalez, Brian Griese, and Priest Holmes.  Just days later, Petrillo solidified the team at the auction and began the season with 5 straight wins.  After two very close losses, the Kilurz finished the season with nine straight victories, highlighted by their record shattering 129 point performance in Week 9.  Petrillo's team after the auction was impressive, but he made it even stronger throughout the year through key add/drops and trades.  Examples include grabbing Antowain Smith from the free agent pool for a mere $2 salary and acquiring superstars Curtis Martin and Donovan McNabb through trades.
